The Opera 8.5 mm is with only 48 g/m the lightest and thinnest single rope on the market. It's also certified as a half and twin rope. Beal has combined all its know-how and the best technologies in this rope. The result is a low impact, Unicore technology, Dry Cover impregnation and UIAA Water Repellent certification on the Golden Dry version. This ultra-smooth and ultra-light rope will delight demanding climbers while remaining versatile for mountaineering.
Use as a single rope is reserved for the specialist due to its small diameter; a suitable safety device is required: Conventional safety devices often have too little braking effect, semi-automatic safety devices can fail.
Each thread of the sheath of the Dry Cover rope is waterproofed before manufacture. This waterproofing takes place under high temperature polymerization and improves the abrasion resistance. The polymerisation process and the treatment of each individual thread increases the life of the waterproofing. This treatment makes ropes more resistant to abrasion, repeated falls, heat, dust, moisture and significantly increases their durability.
An amazing manufacturing process that connects the rope sheath to the rope core without affecting the characteristic rope smoothness. If the rope sheath is cut or torn, the sheath and core remain connected. If the sheath of a classic rope is damaged by friction on edges, it slips and shifts over several metres. It then becomes impossible to overcome this position - both during ascent and abseiling.
This infrared treatment strengthens the fibres of the sheath and makes them more homogeneous. The result is a more compact rope with better handling.
